Robert Rauschenberg foundation donates three sculptures to shared Tate and National Galleries of Scotland collection

The Robert Rauschenberg Foundation has donated three sculptures by Robert Rauschenberg to the Artist Rooms collection jointly shared by Tate and the National Galleries of Scotland, The Art Newspaper reported. The works—G-I Glut (1986), Rasputin's Revenge Early Winter Glut (1987), and Mobile Cluster Glut (Neapolitan) (1987)—will be shown at Tate Modern in London in a display running from 20 September to December 2027. Courtney J. Martin, the foundation’s executive director, said the “Gluts” ask viewers to consider “what we value and what we discard,” while Thaddaeus Ropac gallery described them as among Rauschenberg’s early uses of found metal objects assembled into reliefs and freestanding sculptures. The article also notes that Artist Rooms was founded through the 2008 d’Offay Donation, a tax-efficient sale/gift hybrid in which dealer Anthony d’Offay was paid £26.5 million for 725 works valued at £125 million, and that Tate and NGS cut ties with him in 2020 following sexual harassment allegations from 2018, which he denies.
