Russia Has Damaged or Destroyed Over 4,500 Cultural Sites in Ukraine
Russia’s attacks have damaged or destroyed 1,990 cultural heritage sites and 2,625 cultural infrastructure facilities in Ukraine as of July 31, according to Ukraine’s Ministry of Culture. The affected institutions include 196 arts education facilities and 141 museums and galleries, including the National Art Museum of Ukraine and the Odesa National Fine Arts Museum. The ministry said cultural institutions across 24% of Ukrainian territories and nearly half of the country’s community cultural centers have been damaged, including historic sites on UNESCO’s World Heritage List.
