Russian Strike Damages Ukrainian Monastery, Art Museum

A large-scale Russian attack involving 70 missiles and 611 drones struck Ukrainian cities including Dnipro, Kharkiv, and Kyiv, damaging major cultural sites such as the Kharkiv Art Museum and the Kyiv Pechersk Lavra monastery. Ukraine’s Air Force said it intercepted 50 missiles and 582 drones, but at least 11 people were killed and 50 injured; five people, including a 1-year-old child and a 62-year-old woman, were injured when a missile hit the 121-year-old Kharkiv Art Museum. The Kharkiv museum, designed by architect Oleksiy Beketov and holding about 25,000 works, suffered severe fire damage with its roof and attic reportedly destroyed, though many top works had already been evacuated. At Kyiv Pechersk Lavra, a Geran-2 drone hit the altar area of the Assumption (Dormition) Cathedral, burning more than 8,600 square feet of roof and damaging the nearby late-17th-century Ivan Kushchnyk Tower; no casualties were reported there and the site was closed for assessment and repairs.
