Simone Forti in Her Own Words
Hyperallergic published a never-before-released interview in which scholar and curator Julia Bryan-Wilson speaks with performance artist Simone Forti (born 1935 in Italy), who died in Los Angeles in 2026. The piece notes that in 1961 Yoko Ono (born 1933 in Japan) dedicated a “screaming” work to Forti, and that Forti debuted Five Dance Constructions and Some Other Things that same year in Ono’s Manhattan loft. Forti discusses her relationship with Ono, aging, and her cross-disciplinary practice spanning movement, sound, drawing, poetry, participation, new media, and sculpture. The article also reports that police arrested 16 anti-ICE protesters in the Hart Senate Office Building and that seven Smithsonian museums in Washington, DC, temporarily closed due to a cooling-system malfunction.
