Sonic investigations non-profit to be artist-in-residence at London's Gasworks
The Art Newspaper reports that Earshot, a non-profit founded by Jordan-born artist Lawrence Abu Hamdan, has received a three-year studio bursary at London’s Gasworks to support its sound-based investigations into human and environmental rights. Backed by Spanish patron Mercedes Vilardell, the bursary includes an annual stipend and covers monthly studio rent at the south London exhibition and residency space. Abu Hamdan said the residency helps Earshot operate independently after an “incubation period” with Forensic Architecture, while continuing projects such as an “earwitness” interview tool, research on coral reefs, and a library-in-residence with Ibraaz starting in early October. Earshot and Abu Hamdan will also stage “Repercussions” at the Barbican Centre from 23–26 September, featuring installations, performances, screenings, and live music.
