Sophie Calle explores the stories we tell ourselves

French artist Sophie Calle is the subject of “Overshare,” her first major North American survey, at the UC Irvine Langson Orange County Museum of Art, bringing together work from the 1970s to the present. The exhibition was organized by the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, curated by Henriette Huldisch, and first opened at the Walker in October 2024 before traveling to California. The show examines Calle’s long-running interest in the unstable boundary between documentation and invention across photography, text, film, and installation. It also highlights Calle’s recurring engagement with California, including works tied to the late 1970s and her first major Los Angeles exhibition at Fred Hoffman Gallery in 1989.
