‘The American Public Has No Love for a CEO’: Stanya Kahn On Her Riveting Video of Social Posts About Luigi Mangione
Artist and filmmaker Stanya Kahn has debuted “Deny, Defend, Depose” (2026), a 30-minute video built from rapidly edited social media posts responding to the 4 December 2024 killing of UnitedHealthCare CEO Brian Thompson outside an investor conference in New York. The work references the alleged shooter, Luigi Mangione, and includes the surveillance footage of the shooting, with usernames and avatars digitally obscured, set to an acid/jungle soundtrack featuring Acid Arab, Baseck, Caterina Barbieri, Cameron Outlaw, Unknown Origin, and Kahn. The video premiered on 6 September at the Los Angeles nonprofit Human Resources, with additional screenings scheduled for 11 September at Now Instant and 13 October at Leroy’s, and Kahn has said she is seeking a New York screening. Proceeds from tickets and T-shirts sold with the film’s title are designated for GoFundMe campaigns to help cover healthcare costs.
