The Founders of Open Restitution Africa (ORA) on Their New Open Data Platform
Open Restitution Africa (ORA) launched its ORA Open Data Platform on March 31, providing a French- and English-language database focused on the restitution of African artifacts and ancestral remains, ARTnews reported. Built over six years by an all-woman, pan-African team, the platform uses case histories and AI-powered tools to help users understand and plan restitution processes. The site presents 25 case histories spanning 200 years and includes data visualizations, essays, and interactive features; ARTnews interviewed founders Chao Tayiana Maina and Molemo Moiloa about the project’s origins and goals.
