Tilda Swinton Is Bringing a New Performance Piece to Guggenheim Bilbao

British actor Tilda Swinton will debut a new live performance work titled “House of Gestures” at the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao on June 5–6 in the museum’s Frank Gehry-designed atrium. The interpretative performance was developed with French fashion curator Olivier Saillard and is choreographically inspired by the legacy and sense of place associated with the champagne house Dom Pérignon and its origins in Hautvillers. Swinton has a history in performance art, including her 1995 work “The Maybe” at London’s Serpentine Gallery, later repeated in Rome in 1996 and at New York’s Museum of Modern Art in 2013. The announcement follows the opening of “Ongoing,” an exhibition of Swinton’s performance work at the Onassis Foundation’s Onassis Ready in Athens, featuring collaborations with artists and filmmakers including Luca Guadagnino, Joanna Hogg, Pedro Almodóvar, Derek Jarman, and Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
