Unrealized Artwork by Christo and Jeanne-Claude Will Take Over Gagosian in London
Gagosian in London will realize an artwork conceived in 1968 by Christo and Jeanne-Claude but never previously executed, ARTnews reports. The exhibition, titled “Christo: Air,” runs from May 21 to August 21 and features “Air Package on a Ceiling,” originally planned for the Institute of Contemporary Art in Philadelphia but abandoned due to technical limitations; the internally illuminated suspended form will measure about 32 by 52 feet and hang just over viewers’ heads. Studio manager Lorenza Giovanelli, who began working with Christo in 2017, said she found the original plans in 2018, two years before Christo died in 2020 (Jeanne-Claude died in 2009). The show also includes “Wrapped Automobile—Volvo, Model PV-544” (1981), which has not been exhibited in 30 years.
