Which Artworks Will Grace the High Line’s Plinth Next?
High Line Art is soliciting public feedback on 62 proposals for the artworks that will occupy the High Line’s Plinth in 2029 and 2030, continuing a public-comment process it has used since 2020. The Plinth, inaugurated in 2019 and located on the High Line’s Spur overlooking 10th Avenue at West 30th Street, has recently hosted works including Iván Argote’s Dinosaur (2024) and Pamela Rosenkranz’s Old Tree (2023). The site currently features Tuan Andrew Nguyen’s The Light That Shines Through the Universe (2026), a massive sandstone Buddha made and shipped from Vietnam that references the Bamiyan Buddha reliefs in Afghanistan destroyed by the Taliban in 2001. High Line Art said the commission following Nguyen’s work has already been selected and will be announced in 2027. Artists with proposals for the 2029–30 commissions include Nina Chanel Abney, Kelly Akashi, Seba Calfuqueo, Jonathan Lyndon Chase, Ali Cherri, Cannupa Hanska Luger, Michael Rakowitz, Wendy Red Star, Kathleen Ryan, and Anicka Yi.
